The birth of the Hockey Pro-Filer
(a true story)

In 1989, our family was in Winnipeg, Manitoba with our son attending a hockey tournament. Late Saturday evening, he damaged a blade edge and could barely skate.

After a frantic search, I found a rink employee to sharpen the damaged blades on Sunday morning before the next game. When our son stepped on the ice for the important final game, he discovered that the blade sharpening had been done very poorly and he had no inside edge. He could barely maneuver.

We were all very disappointed. I immediately began thinking that there must be a portable skate sharpener for emergencies like this. During the long drive home, I could think of little else.

After several years of industry investigation, machining and stone testing, the first and Original Pro-Filer was born. Now, seven years later, after tens of thousands of Pro-Filers have been sold, Edge Specialties has introduced the next generation Pro-Filer; the Plus. We are very proud of it and hope maybe someday it will keep you, your son or daughter in the big game.

I am a 16 year old hockey player and I am writing to tell you how great your product is. I work as a skate guard at a local rink in addition to playing hockey, so I get my skates sharpened fairly often. So when I saw the Pro-Filer advertised in American Hockey Magazine, I decided to give it a try. Before this I had never even heard of it before. After talking to a kind and helpful operator, I decided on the gold Pro-Filer. I waited anxiously for the package to come in the mail, and as soon as it got here I got my skates out to try it. After sharpening my Bauer Supreme Composites I looked at the edges and was truly amazed! My edges were terrific, and very sharp. The Pro-Filer is truly the best hand held skate sharpener that I have ever seen. The next day I told my friends and teammates about it and now they want to order one also. Dear Pro-Filer,

On his first shift our top scorer is falling all over the ice. It seems pond skating the night before is the culprit. No edge! 200 strokes with the Pro-Filer later (didn't even miss a shift) he scores his first goal, then another in the third period. We won 3-1. I call it the Pro-Filer victory.
